My teaching philosophy in a nutshell
I believe the flute is an extension of one’s own voice. I focus on nurturing each of my student’s unique capabilities by creating individualized teaching strategies. My ultimate goal to create life-long musicians. In general, my students learn the best practices for sound production (tone), kinesthetic awareness (posture), and how to speak their musical ideas with confidence.

I’m a musician, elementary music teacher, and technology hobbyist. My eclectic interests led to the start of The Flute Examiner: the not-so-normal blog-ish/newsletter about flute.
I’m currently finishing my DMA in flute at The Florida State University where I study with Eva Amsler. I play with the flute/guitar duo, The Cypress Duo and the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra (NC). I teach yoga at The Wildacres Flute Retreat every summer in Little Switzerland, NC.
